Life Behind the Lens

Suspension Bridge // Gazebo Roof

I used to take a lot of photos. Scratch that, a TON of photos. I was obsessed; my camera was seldom not around my neck, ready to snap pictures. I have countless photos of practically everything I did throughout high school; every event from the epic to the mundane. I loved it, both taking the pictures and documenting my memories for the future.

One day I realized that I was living my life behind my lens. Rather than experiencing time with my friends and family, I was hiding behind my camera. Looking back, I realize that I was an insecure, self-conscious teenager who lacked the confidence to put myself out there. So I ditched the camera. I made up my mind to really live. And I stopped taking pictures altogether. When reflecting on some of "the good-old days," my good friend once said "I don't think we really had more fun then; we just took a lot more pictures." That really struck a chord with me, and I've never forgotten that. I went from having thousands of photos from each year in high school to only a hundred or so from each of the last few years.

That being said, I miss capturing meaningful moments from my life. I want to find a happy balance between taking photos constantly and taking none at all. Life is beautiful and I'd like to have tangible evidence again.

These are some of my photos from the archives; some photos I'm proud to have taken. I try not to toot my own horn, so to speak, but I would like to think I was pretty good at that whole photography thing. I like to think that I'm a pretty good judge of what's aesthetically pleasing.

I'm hoping that this blog will reignite my love of photography, but so far it's been tough to get back into the swing of things. It's hard to make carrying my camera a habit again; habits are hard to make. Fingers crossed that it gets easier. :) Thanks for accompanying me down memory-lane.

Autumn on My Mind

Above: My sparkly feet out on my leaf covered balcony. :)

Life has been pretty lately. Beautiful fall trees and their vivid leaves here in the mitten state... I love this time of year. Boyfriend and I carved pumpkins the other night, and we're getting dolled up for a Halloween party this weekend. I mean really, who doesn't love autumn?

I've been feeling so inspired lately. I have these creative surges on occasion, and all I want to do is make project after project. If only I could figure out a way to make projects in the in-between, too.

School is relatively easy this semester, which is nice. But I just want it to be done. It seems so never-ending...

How have you been, world? Have your lives been just as pretty and fall-colored? ♥
